Maple Ridge city councillor in court on 11 charges

Maple Ridge city Councillor Ahmed Yousef had more court appearances this week, for multiple charges.

The councillor faces 11 different charges, and has taken a leave of absence from council.

On April 15, Yousef’s lawyer appeared in Port Coquitlam provincial court for a pre-trial conference about three charges of sex assault. He was scheduled to next appear about these charges on April 29, at the same courthouse.

The same day, he had a pre-trial conference for four charges of assault, one of pointing a firearm, and another of careless storage of a firearm. The charges were sworn almost a year ago, on May 9, 2025.

He is to next appear on those charges on May 13 at the Victoria Law Courts for a pre-trial conference.

He also faces two charges of driving while prohibited, from January of last year, with his next appearance scheduled in Port Coquitlam on May 15.

Persons charged with criminal offences are considered not guilty until the charges are proven in court.
