Driver speeds away and hits tree after 2-car crash in Abbotsford

The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) is seeking witnesses to a serious collision on Thursday (April 9) that began with a two-car crash on the eastbound Highway 11 off-ramp at Old Yale Road.

Sgt. Paul Walker, media officer with the APD, said the crash occurred at around 4:45 p.m.

He said that officers who were en route to the collision were advised that one of the vehicles — a blue Hyundai SUV – had sped away from the scene.

Walker said the SUV continued eastbound along Old Yale Road, crossed into oncoming traffic, left the roadway, and collided with a tree in Crossley Park (across from Yale Secondary).

Emergency crews arrived to find three occupants in the SUV. None of them were seriously injured, but they were taken to hospital as a precaution, Walker said.

He said the driver of the second vehicle involved in the original collision was not injured.

Walker said the investigation is still in its early stages.

“Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed either collision, or who was in Crossley Park at the time the SUV entered the park and struck the tree, to come forward and speak to police,” he said.

Anyone with information or dash-cam footage is asked to call the APD at 604-859-5225.
