A new driver was nabbed going nearly three times the speed limit on an Abbotsford road.
“Last night, a 22-year-old man from Surrey, holding a Class 7 N driver’s licence, decided to visit Abbotsford — and apparently test our roadways like a racetrack,” Abbotsford Police Department stated in a social media post on April 11.
He was caught zipping through a 50 km/h zone at 144 km/h along Marshall Road near Queen Street.
An officer spotted the excessive speed and and pulled the driver over, “quickly bringing the unofficial race to an end.”
He was handed an excessive speeding ticket, and his BMW was impounded for seven days.
“He also had to make alternative plans for getting back to Surrey.”
So far this year, AbbyPD officers have removed 87 excessive speeders from Abbotsford roadways.
Last week, on Good Friday (April 3), AbbyPD officers took nine impaired drivers off the roads in one night.
“Please slow down and help keep everyone safe.”
