New counselling service launched by Cythera in Maple Ridge

A new clinical counselling program has been launched by Cythera to expand affordable, professional mental health support for women and gender-diverse individuals in Maple Ridge and surrounding communities.

Cythera Anti-Violence Society has launched Elyra Counselling to provide personalized, trauma-informed therapy in a safe, inclusive, and compassionate environment.

The program will provide support for a wide range of experiences, including trauma, stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, and life transitions, and is rooted in Cythera’s longstanding commitment to supporting individuals impacted by gender-based violence.

“Elyra Counselling represents an important step forward in ensuring individuals have access to the care they need, when they need it,” said Kristy Rogge, executive director of Cythera.

“We are creating a space where healing can happen at each person’s own pace, while also strengthening our ability to support women and families across our community,” added Rogge.

Elyra offers flexible and accessible counselling options, including both in-person and virtual sessions, with reduced-rate services to help remove financial barriers.

As a fee-for-service program, Elyra Counselling also plays a vital role in sustaining Cythera’s broader mission – revenue generated through the program is reinvested directly into essential, no-cost services that support women and families experiencing violence and hardship.

“This initiative allows us to do more,” noted program manager Nichole Olsen.

“Not only are we expanding access to clinical counselling, but we are also creating a sustainable way to fund critical programs that support women in need.”

For more than 40 years, Cythera has provided safe housing, counselling, and advocacy to individuals and families impacted by gender-based violence and abuse in Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and surrounding communities.

Elyra Counselling is now accepting new clients.
