Fraser Valley Symphony is putting on “Spring Sojourn” featuring renowned cellist Joseph Elworthy.
Elworthy is a fellow of the Royal Conservatory of Music, and was appointed the president and CEO of Vancouver Academy of Music in 2011.
He is a graduate of the Juilliard School and Yale University, where he received the Aldo Parisot/Yo–Yo Ma Prize, the highest honour issued by Yale University to a graduating cellist.
Elworthy has been a visiting artist at the Beijing Conservatory, Harvard University, the Royal Northern College of Music, and Cremona International Music Academy.
Prior to his appointment as president and CEO of the academy of music, he was a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for twelve years.
Additionally, the orchestra will play Symphony No, 5 by German romantic composer Louis Spohr.
the Fraser Valley Symphony was founded in 1984 and is comprised of musicians from Abbotsford and surrounding communities.
Lindsay Mellor is the conductor and music director.
“Spring Sojourn takes place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way in Abbotsford. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and tickets are $25 for adults, $18 for seniors and students, and $6 for children.
