A family-run Maple Ridge woodworking company, that helped craft a new luxury home against the rock cliffs overlooking Belcarra Bay, is up for some high accolades within the homebuilding industry.
Steve Glegg and his high-end architectural millwork team at Stirling Woodworks Ltd. are finalists, up for a handful of different awards in the upcoming Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) Awards for housing excellence.
The overall efforts specific to the Vistas at Belcarra Bay project – a cliff-top home designed for a sophisticated, active couple entering retirement – puts the builder and a number of sub trades (Stirling included) on the shortlist for the industry honours.
“The designer has done some incredible work on this project and we pride ourselves on being able to do just about anything any designer can put on the page,” Glegg said, admitting he loves the home but is most enamoured with the slat hallway hidden doors and detailed walk-in closet.
“Stirling’s many years of being in business, while doing great work like this, grants us the ability to accomplish things many company’s cannot,” he told The News, noting the company was started in 1986 by his father, William, and now involves Glegg’s son Tom and daughter Shelby.
Glegg said the team is honoured to have been shortlisted for a total of five HAVAN awards for this unique project.
They are contenders for best custom home over $10-million; best primary suite (renovated or custom home); best new or renovated space; best (new or renovated) basement; and best interior design in a custom home.
“[Being finalists] gives our employees a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work,” Glegg said. “It also puts us in front of a wider diversity of designer.”
While Stirling has shipped work to the U.S. in past, most of the local company’s projects are in the Lower Mainland, the Okanagan, and a few in Whistler.
This is Stirling Woodworks’ first time up for a HAVAN award.
“We have been very active with the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada awards since the early 2000s, and are excited to be apart of HAVAN,” Glegg noted, hoping he and some of his 15 employees can be on hand for the awards ceremony later this month.
HAVAN Awards celebrate the very best in new-home construction, renovation, and design project within Metro Vancouver’s homebuilding industry.
Winners of the HAVAN Awards will be announced at a gala on April 18, at The Westin Bayshore in Vancouver.
