Missing for 40 days, cat covered in paint found in Penticton

A non-profit society is working to reunite a cat with its owner after it was found covered in paint in the Vancouver Hill area of Penticton.

AlleyCATS Alliance said the cat, missing for 40 days, was first thought to be covered in blood when it was located on Thursday, March 26.

Later discovered by a volunteer to be “some sort of paint,” the non-profit group took the cat to the veterinarian for bloodwork and a bath.

In a social media post, AlleyCATS Alliance said it feels the cat was deliberately “painted.”

It added that the vet couldn’t confirm what the substance was, “but there is a concern about how much the cat may have ingested trying to clean it off,” it noted.

“The blood work does show some concerns, and the cat will be monitored to ensure that she will return to good health,” the post added.

AlleyCATS Alliance says the cat is microchipped, with the non-profit group currently in contact with its owner.

The society described the cat as “extremely thin,” and said only a small amount of fur had to be shaved off to remove the substance.

Anyone who sees other cats with similar markings in the Vancouver Hill area is urged to contact Penticton Dog Control, it added.

AlleyCATS Alliance is an organization dedicated to providing rescue, rehabilitation, medical care, and adoption to feral, orphaned cats and kittens throughout the Okanagan.
