Dwight Yoakam brings guitars and Cadillacs to Abbotsford

A longtime country legend is soon making his way to Abbotsford, and he’ll be bringing his award-winning honky-tonk brand of music with him.

Dwight Yoakam has been a staple of the country music scene since the ’80s, with his journey taking him to some of the biggest stages in the world.

However, the American singer recently announced that he’ll be stepping out onto a few B.C. stages later this year, which is the first time he’s played anywhere in the province since 2018.

Included among these upcoming Canadian shows is an Abbotsford concert on June 29 at Rogers Forum.

Yoakam first rose to fame with the release of his debut album Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc. in 1986, which helped him win Top New Male Vocalist at that year’s Academy of Country Music Awards.

Over the course of his career, Yoakam has put out 16 studio albums, with the most recent one released in 2024.

These albums have included top-charting hits such as Fast as You, Honky Tonk Man, A Thousand Miles from Now, Ain’t That Lonely Yet, and Guitars, Cadillacs.

Ain’t That Lonely Yet even earned him a Grammy Award in 1994 for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.

This was later followed by another Grammy Award in 1999, this time for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for his rendition of Same Old Train with Alison Krauss, Clint Black, Earl Scruggs, Emmylou Harris, Joe Diffie, Marty Stuart, Merle Haggard, Pam Tillis, Patty Loveless, Randy Travis, and Ricky Skaggs.

Those wanting to hear Yoakam sing many of these hits in person can get tickets for the Abbotsford show at dwightyoakam.com.

No opener has been announced for the Canadian string of shows, which also includes performances in Moose Jaw, Ponoka, Dawson Creek, and Penticton.
