LETTER: Hopeful airport traffic can be studied

Dear Editor,

[RE: GUEST SHOT – Pitt Meadows airplane traffic is booming, March 27, The News]

It was good to see some information on our “little” airport. Thanks for publishing Paul Kershaw’s article.

The increase in take-offs and landings at our airport is a little alarming.

As someone who lives in the area, this is a welcome topic for me.

The constant overhead noise makes it very difficult to enjoy time at home with family and company, as well as working our small farm.

These issues are to be somewhat expected when living near an airport, but the increased volume with no sign of slowing down is unfortunate.

I wonder what the regulations are for the types of small aircraft that operate from our airport.

Regular vehicles and commercial transport vehicles are held to strict emissions and noise restrictions, which has resulted in much better air quality and less noise. I would hope that regulations are in place or can be imposed regarding our small aircraft traffic problem.

I’m wondering if Mayor [Nicole] MacDonald has any information on these regulations to share – this would be much appreciated!

Another thing to consider would be looking into the takeoff paths and finding better routes that do not affect as many residents.

Perhaps it is time to do some studies on all of the issues at hand regarding our increased airport activity.
