Megalodon driver goes from dragsters to Monster Jam, in Vancouver this week

Eight drivers will compete for an Arena Championship Series West title during another Monster Jam event at Pacific Coliseum this weekend, March 27-29.

The winner will advance to the Monster Jam World Finals in Salt Lake City, making Vancouver a key part of the championship circuit, not just a tour stop.

Megalodon driver Ashley Sanford brings her history of speed to Monster Jam after competing in Top Fuel drag racing. She joined the truck series in 2023, quickly earning Rookie of the Year honours.

“I’ve always been a fan (of Monster Jam), going to Anaheim stadium, my home track, to watch some of the best growing up,” Sanford says. “I reached out to former Monster Jam driver Becca McDonough a few years back and asked how she got started because I just knew I needed to find a way behind the wheel.… Dreams do come true as long as you don’t give up on them.”

Among other drivers, Armando Castro is behind the wheel of horned truck El Toro Loco in its 25th year of Monster Jam, while Matt Cody, who started as a crew member working on trucks as a teenager, now drives the legendary Grave Digger truck.

Monster Jam involves the three competitions of Racing, 2 Wheel Skills and Freestyle, where the big trucks appear to defy the laws of physics and do the impossible.

Show times are Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at noon and 6 p.m. and Sunday at noon at the arena in East Vancouver. Tickets range from $35 to $118 (plus taxes and fees) on TicketLeader.ca. Pit Party tickets give fans selfie opportunities with the 12,000-pound trucks and high-fives from drivers, Saturday and Sunday.
