One dead in crash after vehicle allegedly flees traffic stop in Abbotsford

The driver of a Dodge Ram died in a crash after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop on Monday (March 16), Abbotsford police say.

According to a media release from the Abbotsford Police Department (APD), an officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Maclure Road near Townline Road at about 11:37 p.m.

Police said the driver of the Dodge Ram failed to stop and fled before it lost control and collided with a tree near the intersection of Maclure Road and Old Yale Road moments later.

The driver was found dead at the scene, per the release. APD notified BC’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of the incident.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is assisting the investigation, which is is in its early stages.

“Investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident,” APD said.

The crash closed Maclure Road between Townline Road and Clearbrook Road, and it remained closed as of 5 a.m.
