The Ridge Meadows Flames are up two games to one in their playoff series against the Delta Ice Hawks after weekend action.
The reigning Stonehouse Cup champions know they have to contain the Delta Ice Hawks’ top scorer to have the best chance of winning their best-of-seven second round series in the Pacific Junior Hockey League. But Delta’s Grady Lenton scored a hat trick on Saturday night, and his team got their first win of the series by a 5-3 score.
The Flames trailed 5-1 at one point, and scored two goals in a late third-period push. The Flames power play has been scoring at an incredible rate of 40 per cent through the playoffs, with 16 goals in 40 opportunities, but the Flames only got one man advantage situation on Saturday night.
Matthew Biros had a goal and an assist, while Jeremy Kraft and Jonah Power Smith both scored.
That vaunted power play tallied twice in the second game of the series on Friday night, which the Flames won 5-2.
Team captain Zack Lagrange and big forward Power Smith both struck on the power play in the first period. Biros was the game’s first star, with two goals and a helper, and Sam Allen had a goal and an assist.
The teams meet again in Delta on Wednesday night. Then on Friday, the series is back at Cam Neely Arena in Maple Ridge for a big game five. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
