Volunteers helped police check 7,000 vehicles in road safety blitz

A leprechaun and other volunteers brought their message of “Don’t Press Your Luck” to the Ridge Meadows RCMP’s distracted driving enforcement.

On Thursday, March 12 the volunteers were helping out, and ICBC partners, they checked more than 7,000 vehicles for distracted driving, speed, and other Motor Vehicle Act infractions. This campaign educates drivers and helps inform the detachment’s road safety enforcement efforts.

According to police, distracted driving is still one of the leading contributing factors in fatal crashes. You are almost four times more likely to crash if using an electronic device while driving.

The message from police: “Don’t rely on luck, leave your phone alone!”
