B.C. teen signs deal with world’s biggest music label

A young Victoria artist is reaching for the stars after signing a two-year record deal with the world’s biggest music label, standing alongside some of Canada’s biggest musicians like The Weeknd, The Tragically Hip and Victoria’s own Nelly Furtado.

Olivia Hahn got her start in artistry when she released her book ‘Healing Our Wounded Hearts: A real-life story about loss in the voice of a teenager’ to help her move through the grief of losing her mother to cancer when she was 15.

Now 19, Hahn released her debut single, Lust Over Love, in 2025 along with a handful of other songs throughout the year before signing a deal with AMG, the distributor for Universal Music Group. Her music will now be distributed and marketed across the globe.

“It’s been amazing because it’s my dream and I love it, and I feel like my mom’s helping guide me through it because that’s why I’m doing it, for my mom,” she said.

Over the past year, she says she has been participating in open mic events, building relationships with the Greater Victoria music scene, and working with a vocal coach.

Over February, Hahn was in Toronto working on music with producer Gvine after a Victoria producer helped introduce them with the goal of creating an album, which is part of the record deal.

“What we’re going to do is drop single by single, once every eight weeks, so that everyone can learn about me and kind of spread more, and people can listen to the songs,” she said, adding that eventually, the songs will be put together into what will be her first album under AMG.

Overall, she’s starting to build a team and continuing to work with a number of producers as she prepares to release her first single as an AMG artist this month, all while navigating the complexities of the music biz.

“I’m starting to understand all these ups and downs and sneaky people and behind-the-scenes stuff, and I wasn’t used to that before, you know, so I’m trying to be more aware,” she said. “You learn a lot as we go.”

Olivia Hahn’s next song is expected to drop in the coming months as they figure out her release schedule.
