Ridge Meadows Flames to host game five this Friday

The Port Coquitlam Trailblazers beat the Ridge Meadows Flames 8-5 to avoid a sweep and force game five in their best-of-seven series in the Pacific Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Flames took game one 4-0 as goaltender Matthew Candusso had a 34-save shutout.

Game two went to overtime, but the Flames won 4-3, with Flames rookie Manny Sandhu playing the hero with the game winner on the power play.

Game three was a 6-2 Flames win, but on Tuesday night the Trailblazers avoided a sweep by winning 8-5. The potent PoCo power play went five-for-six in the game.

Flames team captain Zack Lagrange has put an injury-marred regular season behind him, and last year’s PJHL scoring champ tied for the league lead in playoff scoring, with three goals and 11 assists so far, for 14 points in just four games.

Three other Flames are also in the top 10, as Sandhu, offensive defenceman Erik Sollied, and former Trailblazer Matthew Biros each have 10 points.

PoCo must win again on Friday night to avoid elimination. That game goes at Cam Neely Arena at 7:30 p.m.
