Pitt Meadows Marauders girls win and lose at basketball provincials

The Pitt Meadows Marauders senior girls basketball team won their first game of the provincials, but got knocked out of contention for the championship in their second contest.

The sixth-ranked Marauders opened the tournament with a 51-41 win over the Yale Lions of Abbotsford, the 11th seed, on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Langley Events Centre (LEC).

Shooting guard Evelyn Perler was the player of the game, as she scored 13 points, including four critical three-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Jocelyn Boyes led all scorers with 15 points, and Avery Choquer had 11 points.

Their next opponent was the third-seeded St. Michael University Blue Jags of Victoria, who played stifling defence, and beat Pitt 53-29 on Thursday afternoon.

Boyes was the player of the game for Pitt, with 10 points.

After the loss, the Marauders can finish no higher than fifth in the 16-team tournament.

Next up, the Marauders will face the Sa-Hali Sabres of Kamloops on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. at the LEC. Sa-Hali came into the tournament ranked seventh.
