The older brother of the Tumbler Ridge shooter, Jacob Van Rootselaar, was arrested in Sylvan Lake on Feb. 19.
RCMP officers from the RCMP Central Alberta Crime Reduction Unit arrested Van Rootselaar on his outstanding Canada-wide arrest warrant from a 2024 Fort McMurray attempted murder investigation.
Van Rootselaar has additionally been charged with:
– Weapon offences (x2)
– Fail to comply with release conditions (x5)
Van Rootselaar has been taken before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded into custody for court at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
Eight people were killed in the mass shooting earlier this month in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., by the suspect Jesse Van Rootselaar.
In addition to the nine people dead, 27 others were injured at the school. Two were airlifted to hospital with serious or life-threatening injuries, while the other 25 were assessed and triaged at the local medical centre for non-life-threatening injuries.
