Katzie First Nation elects council

An election on Tuesday, Feb. 17, saw three councillors voted into office for the Katzie First Nation.

A total of 200 ballots were cast out of 480 eligible voters for five candidates.

Incumbents Rick Bailey received 144 votes and David Kenworthy received 129 votes.

Darcy Erickson received 114 votes, over Lisa Marie Adams and Elisha Cunningham who were unsuccessful in their bids for council receiving 79 votes and 46 votes, respectively.

The vote took place at the Katzie Health and Community Centre, with travelling polls on IR2 and IR3.

Katzie First Nation Chief Grace George ran unopposed and was acclaimed to the top position following a nomination meeting on Jan. 29.

This will be her fifth term in the position.

George, Bailey, Kenworthy, and Erickson, will serve in their roles for the next two years.

Chief and council will begin their new term on April 1, 2026, and the term will end on March 31, 2028.
