Company fined $63K after worker passes out from carbon monoxide on Langley site

After a worker passed out from carbon monoxide exposure while working on a Langley construction site, a Surrey-based company has been fined by WorkSafeBC

The incident took place at an excavation site where an employee was using a gas-powered saw to remove a pipe in a confined space.

The WorkSafeBC investigation found that the employee lost consciousness at the site, despite having been supervised at the time.

“The firm failed to ensure confined space hazards were eliminated or minimized and failed to provide its workers with the information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to ensure their health and safety,” said a WorkSafeBC summary of the investigation. “These were both high-risk violations.”

WorkSafeBC imposed a $63,766.63 fine on Industra Construction Corp. as a result of the incident.

The Langley Advance Times has reached out to Industra for comment.
