Retiree drives RV to Burning Man in comical journey coming to Maple Ridge

A retirement dream of attending Burning Man is the inspiration for the latest laugh-out-loud comedy coming to The ACT.

“Burning Mom” is about a woman named Dorothy played by actor Susinn McFarlen, who realizes that life is too short to delay the things you want to do in life.

So, when she loses her husband, she decides to take their RV on a road trip to Burning Man, a week long arts event in the Nevada desert.

“Burning Mom” received its world premiere at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Winnipeg, MB in April 2023.

Playwright Mieko Ouchi based the story on the life of her mother. It is a story of self -discovery and human connection, about taking risks and enjoying the small moments in life.

The play is being put on by the Arts Club Theatre Company and will be at The ACT Arts Centre, 11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 8-10 p.m. and from 3- 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8.

It is geared towards mature audiences and contains swearing, drug use, and fire.

The production may contain flashing lights and water-based haze and fog.

Tickets range from $29 to $54 and can be purchased at: https://www.mapleridge.ca/parks-recreation/arts-theatre/act-performances/burning-mom-arts-club-theatre-company-production.
