Vancouver police believe there could be additional victims after a doctor was charged in a sex assault investigation involving teen victims dating back to 2015.
Police announced charges against 65-year-old Herman Man Hau Lee Tuesday (Feb. 3) from two separate incidents. He faces one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference for offences that allegedly occurred in Burnaby in December 2014, as well as one count each of sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation for offences that allegedly happened in Vancouver between May 2018 and December 2022.
Lee, a Vancouver resident, was charged Nov. 28, 2025, but Vancouver police only released the information publicly Tuesday in a news release.
Police said they believe there could be more people who interacted with Lee but have not come forward to police.
“It is always a personal decision for anyone to come forward and report a sexual assault. We understand, for some, that decision may take time,” Vancouver Police Investigation Division Sup. Dale Weidman said in the release.
“We want to assure everyone that if you do come forward, you will be met with care and compassion, and you will receive trauma-informed support throughout the investigative process.”
Vancouver police first started the investigation in March 2025 after learning that a 17-year-old girl has allegedly been assaulted by a doctor while visiting a medical clinic in Chinatown. Police said the alleged offences occurred over a number of years.
It was through that investigation that the Vancouver Police Department learned of an another alleged assault by the same doctor, this time dating back to 2015 and involving a 14-year-old girl who visited a Burnaby medical clinic.
Police said that investigators gathered and reviewed evidence for both cases for more than two years.
Lee is currently on bail, police said.
He is still a practicing physician in B.C., but as a bail condition he is not permitted to medically treat anyone under the age of 16 without another adult present.
Anyone who may have information in the investigation is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-0602. For more information on how to report a sexual assault or for additional resources for survivors, visit vpd.ca/report-a-crime/sex-crime/.
