Dear Editor,
[RE: Gym teacher told student with asthma to run with empty puffer, Jan. 21, The News]
It is with profound disappointment that I read your article about Mr. McCrae’s suspension.
I have worked with Mr. McCrae for many years, and know him to be an excellent wrestling coach and PE teacher.
Mr McCrae has donated literally thousands of hours – out of school, with no remuneration –coaching wrestling.
His teams have participated in and won numerous championships including provincials.
His teams have participated internationally.
I personally know of at-risk students who have remained in school and graduated due to Mr. McCrae’s encouragement.
As your newspaper sees fit to document a person’s career, this documentation cannot only include the events leading up to the reported incident. All we can truly say is that we were not there and we don’t know the full story.
I am requesting that your republish the numerous articles which you have undoubtedly published about Mr. McCrae’s many successes and contributions to athletics.
As with any fair and impartial newspaper publication, I am sure that you wish to present both the positive as well as the less flattering details of any accounting of a person’s career.
