School district won’t replace senior admin to save $250,000

School District 42 is making cuts from the top of the organization – or near the top.

The district has two top administrators retiring, and will restructure senior leadership responsibilities in order to save almost $250,000 annually.

“While the departure of these experienced leaders is significant, it also presents an opportunity to thoughtfully re-examine and re-envision the district’s organizational structure in response to current needs and future priorities,” noted superintendent Teresa Downs in her report to the board on Jan. 14.

The board agreed, and the streamlining will happen on Aug. 1, with the retirements of assistant superintendents Ken Cober and David Vandergugten.

Downs’ plan is that their responsibilities will be redistributed within the senior team, giving new titles to directors of instruction, learning, communications and public engagement, and an executive director of human resources.

“These changes ensure that the district leadership remains focused on leadership development, support, and supervision, while keeping resources dedicated to learning and improving learner success,” said the board.
