Maple Ridge Ramblers wrestlers repeat as Seaforth Cup champions

The Maple Ridge Secondary wrestling team repeated as winners of the Seaforth Cup tournament team trophy on Saturday, Jan. 24 in Vancouver.

Gold medal finishes came from team captains Linden Sinow-Horton and Eva Fuller, brothers Tyson and Damon Deane-Freeman, Mya Shylov, and newcomer Gabriel Frizzel.

There were also two silver medallists and four bronze medallists from the Ridge team.

Maple Ridge Secondary won the tournament with a team total of 182 team points (points being scored for placings in the top 6), which was well ahead of second-place finisher Comox Valley with 135 points, and third-place Collingwood with 122.

This tournament is put on by Mike Roselli of Vancouver College along with the Canadian military at the historic Seaforth Armoury building on Burrard Street.

“The Seaforth soldiers did a wonderful job of putting on a exemplary tournament that displayed amazing wrestling from the 38 schools and over 300 athletes present from all over the province, the farthest being from Vanderhoof,” said Ridge coach Kevin Menic.

Next up is the Port Alberni tournament from Jan. 29 to Jan 31.
