Chilliwack man honoured with provincial ‘Outstanding Young Farmer’ award

A young Chilliwack farmer has been recognized provincially for excellence in his profession of floral agriculture.

Corne Quik of Quik’s Farm Ltd. was named the British Columbia/Yukon Outstanding Young Farmer for 2026.

Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Program is an annual competition that “recognizes farmers who exemplify excellence in their profession and highlight agriculture’s vital contributions,” according to the press release from BC & Yukon Outstanding Young Farmers.

Growing up on the family farm, Quik developed a “strong entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for agriculture and people.”

Today, he co-owns the operation alongside his father and two brothers, serving as general manager of the farm’s bouquet production facilities, greenhouses, outdoor growing spaces, logistics, and maintenance.

He completed two years of post-graduate business studies at the University of the Fraser Valley, gaining a foundation in business principles.

Quik said he credits much of his professional growth to hands-on experience gained through daily involvement with his team, and added that the business guided by the belief that “no customer is too big or too small to serve.”

The other two nominated for the award in the B.C./Yukon region were Abbotsford’s Liam Ritchie of S J Ritchie Research Farm, and Steve Meggait and Annelise Grube-Cavers of Fresh Valley Farms from Spallumcheen, B.C.

“We had an exceptional group of nominees this year,” said board chair Brian Pauls. “Although their farming operations vary greatly, their stories reflect common struggles and shared values. Each nominee is driven by a passion for farming rooted in family legacy and a desire to build a strong future for agriculture. Together, they represent the strength, resilience, and promise of the next generation of farming.”

Quik received the award at the BC & Yukon Outstanding Young Farmers recognition event which was held in conjunction with the Pacific Agriculture Show at the Abbotsford Tradex Jan. 21–22.

The competition is open to individuals aged 18 to 39 who earn the majority of their income from on-farm sources. Participants are selected from seven regions across Canada, with two national winners chosen each year.

The 2026 Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers will be selected at the National Event in Vancouver from Nov. 24–28.
