BREAKING: 1 man dead, 1 wounded in Surrey shooting

An early morning shooting in Surrey on Saturday, Jan. 24 has left one man dead and another transported to hospital with gunshot wounds.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over investigation of the shooting, which happened in the 12500-block of 91 Avenue at about 4:55 a.m. Saturday morning.

Surrey Police Service officers called to the shooting found two men apparently suffering from gunshot wounds, an SPS release says. SPS officers, Surrey Fire Services and BCEHS rendered aid to the victims.

One man was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene; the other was transported to an area hospital by BCEHS, police say.

IHIT has now taken over the investigation, and investigators are working in partnership with SPS to complete “priority investigative tasks,” police say.

The initial release did not specify whether the shooting is believed to be connected to extortion.

Investigators are asking anyone with information, CCTV or dash camera footage to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

More to come.
