LETTER: Thanks to our salmon heroes

Dear Editor,

Many are aware of the salmon that made their way through Maple Ridge a few months ago.

The spawning salmon died and the eggs that were laid and fertilized live on.

At the end of January, a number of those eggs will be living in classrooms thanks to the work done at the Bell-Irving Hatchery and Ross Davies, the education coordinator of Kanaka Education and Environmental Partnership Society (KEEPS).

Thanks to their work, many students in District 42 have gained knowledge and valuable experiences regarding life in the Kanaka Creek Watershed.

A big shout out of thanks to the board of directors of KEEPS, Darin McClain along with many volunteers at the hatchery, and Ross for being passionate about supporting salmonids in the classroom.

Jerry Vos, Maple Ridge
