Don’t ‘tough it out’: Mental health program for young men available across B.C.

A new virtual mental health support program is now available for young men throughout the province.

On Jan. 7, the YMCA of Southern Interior BC announced Y Mind for Men, a seven-week virtual program for young male adults ages 18-30. The program focuses on providing tools to cope with these challenges while building healthy connections and resilience.

“Men often feel pressure to ‘tough it out’ when they’re struggling, but that can lead to isolation and worsening mental health,” says Cassandra Thomas, general manager of community services and innovation at the YMCA of Southern Interior BC.

According to the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation, men lack sufficient social support systems. A national survey done in April 2025 revealed that 50 per cent of men are at risk of social isolation, associated with higher stress and risks of depression.

The program is free for all men across the province. Participants will also receive a free 90-day YMCA membership. Before joining, interested participants must attend one of two information sessions on Jan 27 or Feb 3. For those who register, the program begins on Feb. 10.

Registration is now open but space is limited. To sign up for an information session or learn more about Y Mind for Men, reach out to your local YMCA.
