LETTER: Keep taxes low

Dear Editor,

I appeared before mayor and council in 2025 to plead with them to keep our taxes low.

And, I will again be appearing before them to reiterate the need to keep our municipal tax burden has low has possible in 2026.

This is due to the Trump’s unjustified tariffs, which is greatly affecting our citizens across the province and country.

The layoffs and job loses here in B.C. have been terrible and will continue to be so until we can reach a fair and just trade deal with America.

But, unfortunately, I don’t see this happening anytime soon.

It will be years before our economy can rebound from this.

In the meantime, we must mitigate the suffering for our citizens of Maple Ridge, who are struggling to make ends meet right now.

Reduce our tax burden!

Are you citizens of Maple Ridge with me on this?

John E. McKenzie, Maple Ridge
