Vernon Vipers forming teams for BC Spring Hockey League

The Vernon Vipers will get a great look at the next generation of potential players for the B.C. Hockey League club.

The Vipers are forming a spring hockey team that will compete in the 2026 BC Spring Hockey League (BCSHL) season.

The BCSHL is a cooperative league featuring BCHL-affiliated organizations and includes divisions at the U14, U15, U17, and U18 levels.

During the 2024 spring season, the U15 division featured teams from Chilliwack, Coquitlam, Cowichan, Langley, Surrey, and West Kelowna.

“The BCSHL is a great way for the Vernon Vipers to connect with the next generation of players coming up in the North Okanagan region,” said Vipers assistant coach Ryan Hollweg. “It provides an opportunity for young athletes to gain valuable experience while working alongside a respected program with a strong history of player development and community involvement.”

As part of the launch, the Vipers will host free spring tryouts at the end of January for the following age groups:

U15 Division (born 2011 and younger);

Junior Division (born 2007 and younger).

Tryout Schedule:

Saturday, Jan. 31:

• Kal Tire Place North | 1:15 – 2:45 p.m. (U15);

Sunday, Feb. 1:

• Priest Valley Arena | 9:15 – 10:45 a.m. (U15);

• Priest Valley Arena | 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Junior Division).

Those selected to the spring hockey league teams will receive:

• 22 hours on ice;

• 22 hours of dryland;

• Team jersey, workout shorts and shirt;

• 12 full length games – three regular showcases and one playoff showcase (TBA);

• League website will provide player stats, standings and profiles;

• Additional sports related seminars for players and parents.

The spring program will run mid April to the end of June. All player selections will be made by the the Vernon Vipers’ coaching staff.
