A New Year’s Day collision near the Surrey-Langley border between a tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles has sent three people to hospital – with at least two in critical condition.
The multi-vehicle collision happened on Jan. 1 at about 5:20 p.m., according to a Surrey Police Service news release.
The crash involving a tractor-trailer and two vehicles happened near the intersection of 32 Avenue and 194 Street, in Campbell Heights. SPS officers, Surrey Fire Service and BCEHS were all called to the scene.
A Black Press freelancer on scene reported that firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free occupants from one vehicle.
Three occupants of the two passenger vehicles were taken to hospital, with two of those initially being described as being in critical condition, police say.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
One person was seen being handcuffed at the scene, the freelancer reported.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, the SPS release says, and 32 Avenue is expected to be closed for much of the evening between 194 and 196 streets.
SPS is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage, to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 26-621 (SP).
