Surrey home hit by gunfire in extortion-related shooting

A Surrey home was hit by gunfire early in the morning on New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) in what’s believed to be an extortion-related shooting.

The RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) is investigating the shooting at the home in the area of 187 Street and 54 Avenue, after being called to the area at about 4:25 a.m., according to a Surrey Police Service press release.

Police officers found damage to a home and a parked vehicle, with several bullet casings in front of the home.

No one inside was injured, police say.

Police say the shooting is believed to be related to extortion.

Investigators are working with partner agencies to determine whether it’s related to other ongoing investigations.
