Gathering gifts for Maple Ridge seniors home

A realtor is collecting Christmas gifts for the seniors in a Maple Ridge care home.

Kelly-Rae Brooks said she was bringing her mom a little Christmas tree and decorations to her room at the facility, and learned that some of the seniors would not have presents on Christmas day.

“They should have a little gift to open,” she said. “It made me really sad.”

Brooks has done numerous charity and donation drives, and put the word out on social media that she would be collecting gifts for seniors. It’s had a slow start, and she’s making a last-ditch efford to get gifts for about 150 seniors. Christmas is just days away.

She’s looking for small donations, including no-slip socks, toiletries, teddy bears, and gifts that can be found at a dollar store. She will pick them up, and is even willing to wrap them. She is spending late nights already, wrapping presents, or getting them into gift bags.

“I’m willing to be the go-between – not everyone has the time,” she said. “I’m willing to make it easy and drive around to anyone who wants to help.”

Brooks has also bought numerous gifts herself – stuffed animals, a sweater, pictures, and miniature Christmas trees with lights that the seniors can set up in their rooms. She will also be bringing decorations.

It’s the season of giving, and her goal is simply to spread some Christmas at the seniors home.
