Merritt man charged with second-degree murder in wife’s death

A 49-year-old man has been charged with the second-degree murder of his wife in Merritt.

Christopher Bernard Jarvis was charged on Wednesday, Dec. 17, with murdering Pamela Jarvis the day before, stated RCMP.

Merritt RCMP received a call from BC Emergency Health Services on Tuesday requesting police assistance at a home disturbance. RCMP officers arrived at the house with paramedics to find Pamela, 45, suffering from significant injuries.

Pamela was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The suspect had fled the home prior to police arrival but was later located and arrested. He remains in custody, police said.

Investigators confirmed the incident was isolated and that the people involved were known to each other.

The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) was engaged and assumed conduct of the investigation into Pamela’s death.

Christopher appeared before a judge and has been held over for a court appearance on Jan. 6, according to police.

“The securing of charge approval was the result of a quick response from Merritt RCMP front-line officers and the ongoing investigation involving investigators from the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, BC RCMP Forensic Identification Services, RCMP Police Dog Services and the Merritt RCMP,” said SED MCU Unit Commander, Staff Sgt. Jason Smart.
