A minor hockey team in Maple Ridge is holding a holiday toy drive in support of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Christmas Hamper Society.
The Ridge Meadows Rustlers U13 A2 hockey team will be collecting new, unwrapped toys suitable for children up to the age of 16.
“This is our first year hosting the toy drive as a team,” explained Sarah Horn, with the local team, which will have all 17 players participating at the drive throughout the day.
They are hoping to collect toys, sports equipment like soccer balls, gift cards, outdoor toys like scooters, musical toys, educational toys, arts and craft sets, and clothing.
The Christmas Hamper Society is always in need of gifts for teens like: art supplies, sports gear, games, water bottles, backpacks, travel mugs, make-up, or a gift card so they can pick out something they need.
The team will not be accepting any monetary donations.
People can drop off items this Saturday, Dec. 13, from noon until 7:30 p.m. inside the front lobby at the main entrance of Planet Ice, 23588 Jim Robson Way, Maple Ridge.
“Our team also has a game during the drive at 6:15 p.m. if anyone would like to come cheer them on after dropping off a donation,” said Horn.
The Rustlers will be taking on the U13 A1 Vancouver Thunderbirds.
