All School district 27 and School District 28 bus routes have been cancelled for Thursday, Dec. 4 due to road conditions.
A travel advisory was in effect for Highway 97 south of 150 Mile House to Clinton, and from the beginning of Highway 24 to Eagle Island Road. The advisory was due to freezing rain and began in the late evening of Dec. 3 until 7 a.m. Dec. 4.
Drive BC said drivers should expect rapidly changing conditions and should drive with care.
Further north Drive BC is cautioning of slippery sections and compact snow, slush and compact ice further out into the Chilcotin. Drivers on Nazko Road, Highway 26 and on Highway 97 towards Prince George may also encounter slushy sections.
Environment Canada has also issued a travel warning due to the freezing rain which it expects to continue into late morning for communities along Highway 97 from Clinton to Lac La Hache.
It said to be very careful when walking or driving as icy surfaces may be difficult to detect, and noted that mountain weather can change suddenly and result in hazardous conditions.
