A joyful celebration of holiday harmony will be taking place in Maple Ridge.
Maple Ridge Chorus with guests, Lynn Valley Voices, will be performing Heather Sorenson’s “Wintersong and Requiem”.
Both choirs recently travelled to Carnegie Hall in New York, where they joined singers from around the world to perform Sorenson’s “Requiem” and this concert will be the Canadian premiere of the “Requiem”.
“These concerts are not just milestones for the singers but heartfelt moments to share with friends, families, and local supporters who made the journey possible,” said Maple Ridge Choral Society president Thyra Gillese, noting that audiences will be swept up in the beauty, hope, and emotion of Sorenson’s music, performed with professional soloists, under the direction or artistic director Frank Zieginson.
Pianist James Dekker will be performing along with soprano Emily Malmgren, and tenor Eric Schwarzhoff.
Established in 1933, the Maple Ridge Choral Society, which performs as the Maple Ridge Chorus, is the longest continually running community choir in the area. It is an all-inclusive, non-audition mixed choir.
In addition to Sorenson’s music, they will also be singing festive favourites including: Carol of the Bells, Dan Forrest’s See Amid the Winter Snow, among others.
Two “Wintersong and Requiem” concerts are taking place, one at 2:30 p.m. and again at 7 p.m.at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 12145 Laity St., Maple Ridge, on Sunday Dec. 21.
Tickets to the 2:30 p.m. show are almost sold out, but tickets are still available for the 7 p.m. performance.
