Neighbouring homes evacuated after explosive device found in Prince George search

Several residences were evacuated after an explosive device was found during a police search warrant in Prince George, today, Nov. 19.

According to Prince George RCMP, the device was located during the execution of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a house on the 1600-block of Eighth Avenue.

Police say the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) from the Lower Mainland has been advised of the situation and is on the way to assist local police in disposing the device.

“Police officers have left the residence and are on sight keeping the area secure until EDU can attend,” Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for PG RCMP, said in the release.

“Out of an abundance of caution for residents in that neighbourhood, investigators have evacuated the nearby houses.”

Residents can expect police to remain on scene until the explosive device has been safely dealt with.

Mounties say the investigation remains ongoing and will resume when the residence is deemed safe for officers to re-enter.
