VIDEO: 10th year of charity shopping event at Langley’s Willowbrook Shopping Centre draws crowds

For the 10th year in a row, the largest mall serving the Fraser Valley closed down for an evening of shopping in support of various charities.

About 1,800 turned out Tuesday night, Nov. 18 in Langley for Willowbrook Shopping Centre’s by-admission Charity Shopping Night, with 100 per cent of ticket sales and event proceeds going to benefit six charities.

It raised more than $60,000, bringing the total raised over 10 years to more than $400,00.

Nicole Lotz, Willowbrook Marketing Director, said the event gets bigger every year.

“We’re up about 20 per cent from last year, so attendance keeps keeps rising,” Lotz estimated.

It was the first time shopping at the charity event for Willoughby resident Michelle Hings, there with her sister Joanne Bergman.

“Well, it’s a charity event, so we wanted to uh help out the community wherever we can and I wanted to take my sister out on a night out on the town,” Bergman said.

“It’s great so far,” Hings smiled as the pair waited in line for their “swag bags.”

Beneficiaries included Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Langley, BC Amateur Sport Fund, Inclusion Langley Society, Langley Lodge, Storehouse Community Hub Society and the Langley School District Foundation.

There were shopping deals and chances to win more than $20,000 in prizes.

Attractions included a selection of bites and appetizers from Willowbrook retsuarants, a 50/50 raffle, a giant gumball machine with prizes, as well as live contortionists, a complimentary caricaturist, free Santa photos and wine, champagne and martini bars.

Willowbrook Shopping Centre has more than 140 stores, restaurants, and entertainment options, that offer everything from fashion and beauty to dining and entertainment.
