Police bust dial-a-dope operation in Maple Ridge

The Ridge Meadows RCMP’s Street Enforcement Unit (SEU) busted a dial-a-dope operation in Maple Ridge on Nov. 14.

Last Friday, SEU officers conducted surveillance on a suspected drug dealing vehicle, seen making short stops around the city.

Officers eventually conducted a traffic stop, before taking the male driver and female passenger into custody. Both individuals were not immediately compliant, and were observed attempting to conceal various items, said police.

A subsequent search and seizure located varying amounts of fentanyl, crack cocaine, and multiple large bills and cell phones. The vehicle was also towed as part of the investigation.

An 18-year-old Surrey male, well-known to police throughout the region, was arrested pending an investigation.

Insp. Rochelle Kokkoris, operations support officer, said the Ridge Meadows RCMP is committed to ensuring public safety and protecting residents by disrupting local drug trafficking networks, and holding them accountable for the harms they cause our communities.

According to a police statement, SEU officers routinely conduct proactive enforcement operations such as this, based on intelligence gathered from various sources, and often using covert techniques to advance investigations.
