LETTER: Let’s max out at 7 storeys

Dear Editor,

It is difficult to see how an immensely high apartment tower will enhance our downtown.

RELATED: 35-storey tower proposed for downtown Maple Ridge

It will dwarf all adjacent buildings, block the views of our Golden Ears, and cause traffic havoc.

It will be in an area already lacking trees and green spaces.

Maple Ridge has done an excellent job providing apartments in the areas that are within walking distance of our many downtown amenities and public services.

As the mayor has pointed out, our city has not only met, but exceeded the housing targets suggested by the province, while building at a human scale.

I’m mindful of Paris, where seven storeys is considered a suitable maximum because it is the height from which a human face is recognizable. Perhaps we can be the Paris of Metro Vancouver?

There may be a place for 35 storeys, but the proposed location is not it, and truly we need to have much better public transit before even contemplating such a project.
