New champions were crowned at the fourth annual Dancing in the Ridge competition, which raised thousands for those in need in the community.
The event raised $21,000 for the Maple Ridge Community Foundation’s Community Chest program, which gives out one-time financial assistance to families or individuals facing an immediate crisis that could lead to a setback in life or a descent further into poverty.
Dancing in the Ridge is the foundation’s biggest fundraiser, with community groups or individuals pairing with local dance schools to come up with routines which they perform at the event.
The fundraiser was fashioned on the popular television dance competition, “Dancing With The Stars”.
This year top honours went to the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services Stepsters , second place went to Echos & Shadows, and the Best Fundraiser prize went to team Guardians of a Wishing Well, Tyson Aubin and Dakota Best.
“Dancing in the Ridge is a celebration of everything that makes Maple Ridge special, community spirit, creativity, and compassion,” said foundation president Kevin Nosworthy.
“The funds raised will directly support local families in need through the Community Chest program. It’s a true example of neighbours helping neighbours,” he said.
Nosworthy is inviting the public to the foundation’s next function, Community Funding + Impacts Night at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19., taking place at Burnett Fellowship Church, 20639 123 Ave, Maple Ridge.
The night will feature a community grants ceremony, in addition to the sharing of community impact stories.
It is free to attend, and all are welcome, said Nosworthy.
