Surrey Police Service (SPS) is reminding the public to pay close attention to Halloween candy after a metal staple was found inside a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup.
Shortly after 2 p.m. on Nov. 1, Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) officers responded to a call from a parent who reported finding a metal staple inside their child’s Halloween candy, the SPS said in a press release.
The children had been trick-or-treating in the Clayton Heights neighbourhood, between 188 and 190 street and from 70-72 avenues.
Police are investigating and working to determine where the candy came from and if tampering was involved.
Parents are reminded to check your children’s candy before your children eat it to make sure it is safe.
