Santa needed for free Christmas Eve event in Maple Ridge

Organizers of Christmas Haven are searching for a Santa Claus for the free Christmas Eve event.

Christmas Haven is a non-denominational, wheelchair accessible Christmas dinner for those who find themselves alone on Christmas Eve.

In addition to a free traditional turkey dinner, catered by Humble Roots last year, there is live entertainment, crafts for the children, a free photograph with Santa, and everyone leaves with a gift.

The event is open to everyone and has been taking place since 1998.

Last year more than 350 people attended.

Donations are currently being accepted.

Organizers have appealed to anyone who enjoys knitting or crocheting warm winter items to consider donating toques, mittens, or scarves, to the event.

A donation of 112 toques were donated on Oct. 10.

Or, if you have yarn, but no time, a group of senior knitters at Chartwell Willow are knitting for Christmas Haven and need yarn donated to finish their projects.

Yarn can be dropped off at the retirement residence at 12275 224th St., Maple Ridge, addressed to Michelle.

Donations of small toys and books are also being accepted.

As their website is currently undergoing construction, anyone interested in playing Santa can email: christmashaven@gmail.com.
