Fall brush chipping coming for east Maple Ridge homes

Residents of east Maple Ridge can get rid of unwanted tree and shrub branches at the city’s free Fall Brush Chipping program.

Chipping crews will be collecting up to three cubic metres per household, of branches 15 centimetres in diameter or less.

They will only be collecting at single-family homes east of 224 Street, and no pre-booking is needed. The deadline for west of 224 Street was Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Branches have to be left at the roadside beside the property by Monday, Oct. 27.

Crews will not accept: leaves, stumps, vines – including willow branches, bamboo, thorny branches like rose bushes, holly, or blackberries, root balls, household waste, grasses, construction waste or building materials.

They will not collect late set-outs or oversized piles.

Chipping may take up to two weeks to complete.

The purpose of the program is to provide an alternative to burning this material, said the city online.

Anyone who misses the deadline or have more material, can take their green waste to the Maple Ridge Recycling & Waste Centre at 10092 236th St. for a fee.

For more information call Ridge Meadows Recycling at: 604-463-5545, or go to: https://www.mapleridge.ca/brushchipping.

The program is run in partnership with Ridge Meadows Recycling Society.
