Dear Editor,
[RE: Tower floated – 35-storey highrise proposed for Maple Ridge, The News, Oct. 17]
The idea of constructing a 35-storey apartment block in Maple Ridge is absurd.
The fact that it is even being considered, Mayor Dan Ruimy calling it “exciting,” demonstrates out of touch with reality and the community that Maple Ridge council is.
Shave 20 storeys off the building, and the project may be a suitable addition to the city.
Transparency and accountability is lacking for this council, as further illustrated by the $700,000 that has been wasted on the Our Neck of the Woods events, the questionable plans for the Hammond park and golf course, and the puzzling take over of The ACT Arts Centre.
I urge Maple Ridge residents to participate in the next civic elections to elect alternatives to the current council members with candidates who are willing to carry out their duties with a better sense of responsibility to the people who they are supposed to serve.
