Explosive inside truck leads to drugs, guns seizure in Prince George

The Explosive Disposal Unit was called to the scene of a traffic stop after a Prince George RCMP officer pulled over a white pickup truck to ensure the driver had a valid license.

The officer noticed a weapon inside the vehicle while conducting the stop near 1300-block of Pearson Avenue on Jan. 25. Both the driver and the passenger were arrested for possession of a weapon, while police searched the rest of the vehicle.

Inside on the floor of the passenger seat was what appeared to be an explosive device. The Explosive Disposal Unit attended the scene to dispose of the device safely. Both men were later released pending the results of the full investigation.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence associated with the vehicle to ensure no further explosive devices were in the home.

However, inside the home, police discovered and seized a variety of other weapons, including firearms and ammunition, hard body armour, illegal cigarettes, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and suspected illicit substances.

“When this officer acted proactively on her knowledge of the vehicle and its owner, the resulting investigation allowed police officers to remove a significant number of weapons from our streets. This is a great example of community safety in action,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP.
