Hungry hound, father flips about flapjacks highlight unusual 911 calls in Kelowna

Making pancakes late at night is apparently a problem for one Kelowna parent.

On Tuesday, Jan. 6, the Kelowna RCMP released a list on social media of unusual 911 calls the department received in 2025.

Included in the list was a father who called 911 because his son was making pancakes at 11 p.m. It’s unknown if police attended or got any pancakes.

The RCMP also received a call who reported a woman screaming in distress.

“Upon police arriving, the ‘screaming’ was a family member squeegeeing their shower,” said RCMP.

Mounties also received a ghostly report one day.

“A report was made to Kelowna RCMP of a suspicious driver on Highway 97 driving as a ghost with a sheet over their head and wearing sunglasses,” the RCMP’s social media post stated. “It wasn’t Halloween.”

A local business also called police after a theft to one of its vending machines. Police attending and discovered the culprit was the employee’s dog.

“The Kelowna RCMP urge you to take a pause before calling 911 to determine if this is an emergency that needs police to attend,” reads the post.

RCMP also remind residents not to call 9-1-1 unless it is an emergency where you feel unsafe or to report a crime in progress.
