Abbotsford police officer injured in Langley hit-and-run crash

An Abbotsford police officer was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Langley Friday evening, and now the RCMP and Abbotsford Police Department are looking for more witnesses and dashcam footage.

The incident happened around 7:22 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 where an on-duty Abbotsford officer was driving an unmarked police vehicle in the 5200 block of 264th Street in Langley when it collided with a white GMC Canyon pickup truck.

The driver and a passenger in the truck fled on foot.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was expected to be released from hospital “shortly,” according to a Langley RCMP press release sent out by Cpl. Brett Urano at 10:42 p.m. that same night.

Officers from both the Langley RCMP and Abbotsford Police Department were at the scene to help to the injured officer.

“Police are still attempting to identify and locate the people involved in the crash to ensure their wellbeing,” Urano stated.

The area around 264th Street and Highway 1 had major delays due to road closures for the investigation.

“The Langley RCMP is leading the investigation and have enlisted the assistance of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS), to assist in determining the cause of the collision,” Urano said.

“We are requesting anyone who may have been driving in the area with dash cam footage or had witnessed the crash or know who was in the vehicle but have not yet spoken to police to call the Langley RCMP. The investigation is in its infancy and on going.”
