Sebastian Aho scored the game winner 4:28 into overtime, lifting the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Vancouver Canucks in NHL action Friday at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C.
Andrei Svechnikov (2) and Taylor Hall also scored for Carolina (12-5-0), while Pyotr Kochetkov earned the win in goal, making 14 saves. Max Sasson, Elias Pettersson and Conor Garland scored for Vancouver (8-9-2). Kevin Lankinen played well in a losing effort in goal, making 34 saves.
The teams exchanged two goals apiece during an eventful first 10 minutes.
Vancouver opened the scoring at 2:45, when Sasson broke in on Kochetkov and scored his fourth of the season on the first shot of the game.
Svechnikov pulled Carolina even at 4:20, taking a pass in the slot from Sebastian Aho and ripping a one-timer past Lankinen. With the ‘Canes on the power play just 54 seconds later, Svechnikov scored his sixth of the season, on another one-timer, this time off a feed from Shayne Gostisbehere.
Vancouver made it 2-2 at 9:14, when Elias Pettersson jumped on an errant Sean Walker pass and beat Kochetkov for a shorthanded marker. Pettersson now has four goals on the season.

Carolina’s Seth Jarvis was injured by a wayward high stick from teammate Svechnikov in the first period and didn’t return.
Garland gave Vancouver a 3-2 lead at 3:13 of the second, taking a cross-ice pass from Brock Boeser and beating Kochetkov from the right circle.
With the Canes exerting some sustained pressure, Taylor Hall tied it at 3-3 at 6:26 into the third, finishing a nice feed from Gostisbehere. Carolina held a 34-16 shots advantage after three periods.
In OT, the Canucks controlled possession for much of the period, but late in the frame, Aho spun away from Pettersson and fired the winning shot over the blocker of Lankinen. Aho now has 17 career OT winners.
NOTES: Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes missed the game with a lower-body injury… The Canucks blocked a season-high 29 shots, compared to just four for the Hurricanes… Both teams were 1-for-2 on the power play… Gostisbehere and Svechnikov both had three points for Carolina… Vancouver continues action on the road Sunday, when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning (2 p.m.).
